The 3rd place Royals met the 2nd place Indians.  The Royals won the first three games.  The Indians
roared back to win the next three.  Game 7 was won by the Royals allowing them to get a rematch of last
years World  Series vs. the DRays.

World Series

Game 1 matched Lackey 8-13 4.02 (5 shutouts tied for league lead) vs. Gil Meche 16-7 3.80 of the D
Rays.
The Drays hit 4 homeruns but lost 6-4.

Game 2 Duchscherer  12-6 3.42 vs. the D Rays Sabathia 12-9 4.10

Duch pitched 6 strong innings and the Royals rolled to a 9-2 victory.

Game three moved to Kansas City

KC had Guthrie 16-6 3.89 facing the D Rays Javier Vazquez 19-8 3.01

The Royals scored a run in the first.  Guthrie loaded the bases in the 6th with one out, before tiring.  The
Royals bullpen got the final two outs with no one scoring.  With one out in the bottom of the 9th and Bobby
Jenks on the hill, Jermaine ripped a 2-0 fastball into the bleachers 396 feet away sending the game to
extra innings.  In the 12th, Granderson tried to score from 2nd on a single (1-14).  Mauer blocked the
plate getting the out and ending the threat.  In the 15th, the Drays scratched out a run to win 2-1.

Game Four

The Royals started Harden 6-8 5.51 vs. the DRays Jeff Weaver 13-7 4.52  

The Drays got a strong performance out of Weaver and coasted to a 6-1 victory.

Game Five

It was a rematch of John Lackey and Gil Meche.   

In the comfort of Kaufman Stadium, Lackey cruised and the Royals won 6-1 putting the D Rays on life
support.


Game Six

The series returned to Tampa Bay, rematching game two starters Justin Duchscherer bs. Gil Meche.

The Royals scored early and often.   Duchscherer was on his A game and allowed only 2 hits over 8
innings.
After 7 innings, The Drays manager threw in the towel and had the ATL's newest manager Paul McDonald
play the last two innings.  After all the carnage, the final score was Royals 25 Drays 0.

The Royals become the 6th different champion in the last six years.

Although Duchscherer was 2-0 with a 0.84 ERA, the MVP went to Milton Bradley.481 average, .563 on
base and .704 slugging to go with his 2 homeruns and 7 ribbies.  (AROD had 8 ribbies)

Team stats-  Royals- .318 batting average  ERA  2.25

                Drays    .177 batting average  ERA  7.17

It just goes to show anything can happen in a short series.
